Slow start-up ????

Postby ciaran_mccreary » Mon Feb 20, 2012 6:21 am

Yesterday, out of the blue the supertrue PC started acting up,

The PC hangs for approx 5 / 10 mins once mouse driver installs before progressing to the Supertrue load

Then while going through channels, (think it's loading the default into each channel) it goes through each channel very slowly. This up until yesterday took only a couple of sec's now a few min's.

Any idea whats happening here ?

Amek Rembrandt

Thanks in advance .

Hi
Could be 'hum' corrupting data comms from computer to desk making it have many 'tries' to communicate.
Does it work properly once it is all loaded?
May simply be the 5 Volts for the Virtual Dynamics is 'low' as it will take many efforts to try to 'talk' to each of the processors on the VD cards. Do all the VD work once it has booted?

fan on PC power supply doesn't seem to be turning .. wondering if its power to the comms card that's the issues. I will investigate more.

Hi
If the PC fan is not running there is arisk of failure on the computer board so must be fixed.
I would get the computer running happily first before too much work 'in the desk', other than checking the 5 Volts that goes to the Virtual Dunamics.

Update:
having opened up the PC i have identified a few issues, The power supply fan is not turning. The hard drive in making alot of noise and i believe this maybe at failure point and root of the problem, also the small fan above the CPU seems not to be turning also,

I am presuming that I will be able to Clone the IDE drive before it fails, the power supply looks pretty standard but unsure.

Hi
There was nothing 'special' about the hard drive so cloning should be OK.
All of the Supertrue software fitted on a floppy and as such you could start with a floppy and a 'new' machine with DOS6.22 installed and you would be fine. 486 or Pentium 1 (original) up to 133MHz WILL work, others MAY.
Cloning has the advantage that it will have all your mixes on it and the desk calibration and setup. Again, it can be 're created' if you have had a total disaster.
