Just purchased and awaiting shipment. This Big 28 has been fully modded. All the opamps and caps. The opamps with Burr Brown. Including the master. Hope to get some very nice sounds of of it.

Also checkout the studio being built it will be used in. Hoping to be open for business by Sep 2015. Main tracking room made of double wall brick from the 1930's 18 foot ceilings and over 4000 cubic feet.

I have a Big 3 in now. It has that 2180A VCA's added, all National and Analog Devices opamps, no coupling caps except one in the VCA and a pair on the output driver chips. Those AD driver chips (also made buy that corp) are the weak spot in that design.

Jim is that with the Analog 2019? The Big 28 I just got has the Big 2 and Big 3 modded with IN217. But I also have a spare Big3 unmodded. Let's talk offline about your modded Big3's.

The Big 3 module has a SSM2017 for the talkback mic. I suppose the rest of the inputs also use those, but I only have the master module here.

Stereo sum opamps are ADA4898-2 with ferrite beads in place of the input blocking caps. I add rf traps to mix buss lines these days not because of radio stations but because everyone in the control room has a cell phone in their pocket.

The VCA's are THAT 2180's, I also rebuilt the monitor path, no caps, very accurate.

Also just picked up a pristine Big 44, one of the last built. It came with the rack mounted automation computer from Amek but am missing the automation serial cable. Does anyone have the pinouts so I can build a new one. Thanks.

I have the full service manual. It's huge with many three page pull outs. Anything specific? Other than all :)

Also what condition is your 44 in?

My 44 needs some TLC... im thinking my first step is to recap and see where everything is at, right now the BIG 3 seems to not be working, as my aux masters and stereo bus arent passing signal, the channels direct outs and all busses, EQ, and routeing (fader, input flip, etc.) all seem to be working fine, no computer but looking into getting one from Dave Rochester. The rack mount computer seems like a cool feature, Would love to see some pix of your desk... Ive been talking with Jim about his mods and would like to maybe get a couple channels modded to A/B. Id love to hear what you think about the mods you have done with yours...? Have fun, hope to see some pix and hear some cool stuff.
