LL1539 in a Amek BC3

Postby andybaker28 » Mon Feb 01, 2016 9:48 pm

Was just curious if anyone had ever added LL1539's to a BC315 from an Amek BC 3. Have been interested to add them to my console for a while now and wonder if it would be a good choice on a few channels to add a bit of colour. I do have them on the master channel already, but it was this way when I bought it.

are you asking about the transformers?

If so… i added lundahl transformers to 8 channels of my bc2. I'v'e got a decent monitoring chain with ATC speakers and a decent mix room and I'd be hard pressed to tell you there's a difference in sound between the channels with the transformers installed.

IF there is a difference it's an extremely small one.

Im sure you could modify the circuit so that you could really push that input transformer into saturation….but I haven't found that to be the case with the stock transformer/wiring installation.

Id bet that the AML mic pre mods would offer a much more substantial change in character of the input section, if that's what you're looking for.

Thank you for your opinion!

I have heard the same from a few other people as well. I think I will pass for now on the transformers.

Sure thing. I think the transformers in the bc 2 & 3 desks have more to do,with noise isolation than tone or color.

I would like to hear the aml mic pre next to a stock module. Might be a bigger bang for the buck?

Yes the pre would likely be a good choice. I like that they have a BC 3 in their shop!
I am now thinking about swapping out the NE5532s and TL071s. You ever had any experience with this on the master bus?
