AMEK Angela problems

Postby Frcake » Tue Mar 15, 2016 3:49 am

Hey guys, so the angela i've been trying to get info for is at our studio!!

Yesterday we patched a mic and started messing arround with the channels to hear her sound.

One thing we noticed is that the VU Meters act weird cause when you start the oscillator the VU's are fine but when we talked through the Mic we had no VU but peak light on the buss was working!!

and then... we pushed a channels pre a lot to see how it reacts and how it alters sound and as we were talking through the mic and pushing the pre we heard a puffing sound and then nothing but a low hum.

We quickly turned the PSU's off and at the moment noticed that we both lost the -V and the +V leds.

Fuses looked good.

We disconnected the console and powered it on again and the +V (green light) "Tries" to come alive but falls right after.

The -V light (red) is OK!..

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

Start with the PSU only. This is the heart of your console. Adjust voltages so they are correct.

For mine, the regulators, tatalum capacitors and voltage trimmer pots needed to be replaced in the PSU due to age.

Make sure the voltages are correct. Remove all cards, then slowly add one card at a time (with the power off of course), and it should pick up which cards may have issues.

Thanks Horizonsound!

After a bit of messing around with the PSU , we found out its the power transistor that died and we lost one rail!

That's for someone who had a problem like me.

Horizon as it seems you are the only one who responds! :D Thank you for helping me man!

Do you know how i can switch so i can see the input in the VU lights?
The VU Lights work with the oscillator but not with the mic, it's some stupid setting wtf..

Ahh cool. Glad you got it sorted.
Having come across almost every issue on this desk, I'm happy to share my learning.

The input and monitor routing of the Angela is rather interesting. To ensure your signal goes to the meter, have the following settings when a mic is plugged in...

IP Rev, Mic/Line, A/B and Alt/IP switches all up.
Channel routed to the corresponding bus.
Fader up.

The patch bay occasionally plays up on mine, so to be sure, use patch cables to jump the normalled connections.

The only thing not working on my desk is the oscillator, as the crystal is dead, and they are unobtainable.

Anthony.

Haha, maan , that's the first thing we checked , it works :P

Ok when PSU comes this week , ill test your settings and generally try to get deeper into the console.

Thanks for your input i trully appreciate it!
