The recall is a very nice console for studio use especially with the neve pres, but with a hybrid setup with the DAW doing automation etc i thought i go for the sonic benefits of a very nicely designed vintage console, fully discreet transformer balanced, with passive, inductor eq. Its only 12 ch but i have another 12 ch sidecar of the same "family" that will give me 24 on mixdown with 4 stereo busses withstereo main and monitor out.
At the moment my tech is adding inserts and direct outs to each ch and in the pic below , the last R H module is a dual ch comp limiter that will be patched to the patch bay for ch or buss. The brand name is Audek and it was built by techs who were also involved in the design and manufacture of Optro consoles, tape recorders and other studio gear here in Australia in the late 60's and through the 70's. The Audek uses some optro cards to their own design The sound is everything you would hope for in a console of this design and vintage, perfect for tracking and summing a DAW mix with analog eq and comps etc.

Here is a pic inside the mic pre module.
Some of the transformers like the one above were hand wound by the man behind the Optro line of gear, Graham Thirkle. The others are Gardiners.
The EQ is Bass cut &boost, Treble Cut & boost with a 4 position switch mid presence boost.

Very interesting! Can't tell from the photographs, are the pans (channel selectors) L-C-R?

They could be used as L C R. The pan pot is at the top right of the module. There is a red switch about half way down on the right that can switch the pan in or out. The ch select is used to send the ch to any of the four master out modules at the center of the console with the faders. One pair can be used as the master out and the other as a buss for, say parallel comp on drums for stereo or two mono signals and be fed back to the master out. I have had it going before starting the restoration but am not familiar with the desk really. We are working out the details of including the 6 busses available on the sidecar by utilizing the tape outs on this console. It was originally set up for use with an 8 track tape machine, but i am using a patch bay with everything like direct outs and inserts etc on the patch bay. So the old tape send and return paths can be modded and used.

Well, It's been a few years since I dropped in for a visit. The restoration of the Audek by its original builder Alan Jenkins has been undertaken. These thinks cost more and take longer than you think when taking such a project on. I'm very happy with the results. She sounds fantastic, here is a link to a live recording throught the Audek:
