Otari Concept, Concept Elite and Elite Plus

Postby ter » Mon Oct 23, 2006 5:14 pm

I have an Elite, and a fair number of spares including two or three spare analog master modules, a dozen or more motor faders and a number of spare complete modules. My console is 24 module, 48 moving fader with patch and Eagle auto. Coleman Rodgers overhauled my master section here in MA and did a great job.

Would love to talk about experiences with Otari boards...

Thanks-

I put up a page

http://www.thomaseaton.com/otari/

that has a bunch of info.

I had an Amek Angela for a number of years and still feel that those eqs were slightly better sounding (widest Q was more subtle and pleasant sounding) than the Otari's. For summing the Otari is great, but it has far too many active stages if that's all you need it to do.

The Otari on eBay is lacking a patchbay, which is a HUGE issue. If you can figure in your time and effort or the cost of having a patchbay made to host five patch points per module, ten aux sends (and all your outboard), all the control room monitor section outputs and inputs, master outputs, inserts, osc sends, etc. then you might not see it as such a deal.

I actually like the preamps in the board, though the one on eBay is just a line mixer.

We have an Otari Concept One and that we have recently modded with Elite modules we got from an Elite console in LA that had P&G faders! :D The sonic difference is really noticable. Love the expanded EQ section too. We have an Elite master module as well. We are now toying with some stereo return modules that we got on EBAY. 2 stereo signal paths per single space module. Cool options onboard as well. We are looking for some stereo module cards for our patchbay to wire them up. Anyone have a clue as to where we can get some. We also have 32 Concept One modules with moving faders available if anyone is looking.

Hi Pat,
Mostly, you'll have scavenge anything you can find, but I would do two things: (a), I would call the various brokers, like Odyssey Pro Sound, Primal, etc... and see what they may have or know about, and (b), I'd just run a google search for any studio that has one, and call or write to see if they have spares they want to sell...

For better or worse, I know quite a few guys ditching their consoles in favor of pres and summing busses.

Hi Tom, i know its a long time since 2006, but i have a Elite+ and want to ask you
if you have these modules , especially the master module. Mine refuses to work sometimes
and the potis and switches dont function right.
Next thing is that the calmast is working only until it says calibrate right channel master,
but it does not finish. Any ideas?
btw, you sent me a schematics 2 month ago to austria...

Thanks
