MCI 416

In the late 70's, over half of the records in Billboard's Top 200 were recorded and/or mixed using MCI equipment.

MCI 416

Hey All,

My MCI416 that has been in storage for 15 years after working with indie bands from the 90's including Blonde Redhead,Pavement etc. is almost completely restored. My friend Mike Yach from Immersive studios in Boulder Colorado recapped the entire board including power supplies and we just fired it up and it sounds amazing. We are going to pair it up with a Stevens 2 inch 16 track and a bunch of other fun outboard gear from the past.

There are still a few parts we are looking for to move forward so I thought I would give a call out in case any might have parts or know where I could go to find some.
We are looking for any relays, EQ sections, some faders, VU meters etc. Would also be interested in buying modules or anything else out there we could use for backup.

EQ sections...I assume you mean the rotary switches? Those are typically pretty reliable.

The VU meters will be tricky, since Dixson got out of the VU meter business many years ago, so you'll be stuck with scrounging for old used meters. FWIW, Ampex used the same basic meter in the AG-440 "A" and 440B and the MM-1000. Some old Ampex video tape machines also used the same meter.

The 416's I've seen used the back-lit API faders which are quite rare anymore.

Out of curiosity, does your desk have the stock "MCI 2001" (aka Harris 911) opamps, or has it been retrofitted?

Best,

Bri

Just out of curiosity, what Pavement album was your 416 used on and to what extent was it used?

I used a Trident 24 for monitoring on the pavement record and used all outboard pre's.
The recorder was Crooked rain which also consisted of the last 5 or 6 songs on Wowee Zowee
