Re: "MCI" Sony MXP 2000 and Sony MXP 2900 seriesExcuse me, just a question... why do you write "MCI" ?
I have an MXP 2000 but i think that MCI did something with SONY in the 3000 series, not 2000. Maybe you can help me...
Re: "MCI" Sony MXP 2000 and Sony MXP 2900 seriesMXP2000 was produced just after Sony bought up MCI and came out of Fort Lauderdale. It was a project using the guy from Clyde Electronics and was a balls-up right from the start.
It had VU meters which don't reside in a European broadcast environment (definition: "if the needle moves, it's wrong") so they needed PPMs retrofitting. I designed the PPM bargraph meter bridge for Sony, and supplied the first batch of 20. Unfortunately they had mixed up the analogue and digital grounds in their electronics boards (5v to 74 series TTL pin 14 and analogue ground to pin 7) so they had a lot of crosstalk and noise problems which I helped cure over several months. They then went to another supplier for the next batch (who quoted them at my cost price) which then went bust. In the meantime they launched the largest law firm in New York onto me for the drawings, claiming all sorts of expensive nonsense. It was particularly sad time as one of the world's greatest recording equipment manufacturers was taken over and quickly killed off. I always thought that if they could merge Sony's manufacturing quality with the product design and experience of MCI they could be onto a winner. But it wasn't to be.
Re: "MCI" Sony MXP 2000 and Sony MXP 2900 seriesShocking story zaentzpantz. AFAIK the MXP at the beginning, was a rebranded JH600, but then it became a whole different beast. The MXP 2000 and 2900 is not MCI at all, aside from the fact that yes sony bought MCI.
