Calrec M Series AFL button latching

Postby Factory Street » Wed Aug 01, 2012 2:06 am

Hello,

I have a problem with some of the AFL buttons on my M series console on the RC2225 modules not latching.

Is there a fix for this that doesn't involve replacing the switch?

If I need to replace them does anyone have any tips on removing the switch, it is held in place with a metal frame along with the other switches in that bank, do I need to remove them all then bend the metal frame to get it out?

Does anyone know a good source for replacement switches?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Alex,
Contact Gareth at GJC designs for replacement latch pips.
The switches in the bank may require desoldering to get the switch out to get the metal strip off.
Once removed the pips can be replaced.
Occasionally the metal strip can be removed without desoldering the switches.
Bend metal back into shape before re-fitting.

Well, I've done some fiddly jobs but this one takes the biscuit.

Does anyone have any idea if it needs some lubricant on the switching mechanism?
What sort?

Cheers

Just requires a bit of silicone grease.

Thanks Richard.

Any hints for removing the switches from the board?

I've cleaned the solder from all the pins on a bank of 3 switches I need to remove to sort out the bracket and latches, but they aren't shifting or even feel loose.
It is a double sided circuit board, is it possible they are soldered to the switch side too with the solder pad hidden under the switch itself?
If that's the case I can't see a way of getting them off without destroying them, I obviously don't want to use too much force.
I am pretty good at soldering so I'm surprised they are causing so much trouble.

So as it turns out the easiest solution by far is to remove the metal clip that holds the latching pins in place and replace the pins in situ.

This is not much fun on a bank of several switches but easier than desoldering them. The lubricant helps to hold the pins in place.
